From the heart

I spent an hour this morning writing an email to promote my Daily Attack Plan workshop that's happening next week.

It was magical. Majestic, even. The kind of prose men will be talking about for generations to come.

And I'm not going to send it to you today. Because all of a sudden, it feels so small and insignificant.

My wife just left the house with our youngest, rushing to the airport to catch a flight to see a family member who's in a serious health crisis. A life hanging in the balance.

Few things have a way of jolting me back into the present and putting everything in perspective quite like that.

I could sit here and tell you all about The Daily Attack Plan, how to execute what matters most, accomplish more by working on less, plan your days, time block, and all that good stuff.

But if I'm just going to shoot you straight, heart to heart, I really just want you to live an amazing fucking life.

To do work that lights you up. To spend time with the people you love. To have fun, play, explore, laugh, have an impact, and feel fully ALIVE.

If you live to be 90 years old, that's roughly 32,872 days on this earth.

I like to imagine each of those days as a little square on a giant chart hanging on the wall. And every time I have a great day, a day that feels like a win, I get to go color in one of those squares.

And man, I want your chart filled in black. A life that was full. A life that was lived to the max.

It reminds me of a sermon I heard back in college. An older pastor came to speak to us one day, and the central question of his message was something I've never forgotten.

"How are you going to live your dash?"

He talked about walking through a cemetery and looking at the headstones.

John Doe. 1940-2010.

Two dates. And between them, one little dash representing an entire lifetime.

All the people you loved. The things you built. The adventures you had. The risks you took. The laughter. The heartbreak. The ordinary Tuesdays that, in the end, turned out to be your life.

All of it, represented by that little dash.

So how are you going to live yours?

Because that's the real reason The Daily Attack Plan exists. Shoot, it's why Total Man exists as a whole.

Not so you can squeeze another hour of productivity out of your day. So you can make the most of the days you have.

I'll never forget that sermon. I hope you don't either.

Big love,

James

Someone asked me the other day why I'm not posting on social media anymore. Instagram specifically, since that's where I've historically been most active. My answer was pretty simple: I don't work with short-form people, so I don't really make short-form content. A rather contrarian position these days, considering just about everyone seems to be competing for three to five seconds of your attention. Trying to stop your scroll, hijack your dopamine, and keep you entertained long enough to get...

It has recently been brought to my attention that I am something of a savant. A true trailblazer. A man whose genius deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Da Vinci and Einstein. And for what, you may ask? Walking. You see, I tend to be a little late to social media trends because I don't spend much time on those platforms. But I recently learned about a sensation that's been making the rounds on TikTok among Gen Zers. It's called silent walking. And get this. Here's how it works. You...

It's interesting how quickly we can turn on ourselves when we don't do something we said we were going to do. I've got a client whose physical therapy clinic is growing like crazy right now. He's hiring, building a great team, and putting new systems and processes in place to support the growth. But he brought something up on a recent coaching call that he'd been beating himself up for. He said something along the lines of: "Man, I keep time blocking Tuesday mornings to get my admin work...
